Providence Journal - Various Rhode Island bridges and several buildings in Providence will be bathed in red, white and blue light Sunday as the New England Patriots play the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.

At the request of Gillette Stadium, various Rhode Island bridges and several buildings in Providence will crank up appropriately colored accent lights Sunday night, just in time for the New England Patriots' Super Bowl appearance against the Atlanta Falcons.

Three bridges and three distinctive downtown buildings will light up in the Patriots' red, white and blue, according to an announcement from the Rhode Island Sports Commission.

The Residences Providence at the Westin at 1 West Exchange St., the IGT Building at 10 Memorial Blvd. and the Cosmopolitan building at 100 Fountain St. will participate in the lighting salute.

Three bridges, the spans over the Pawtucket, Providence and Sakonnet rivers, will boast Patriots-colored lights.

Meanwhile, "supportive signage" will be added to highway signs throughout Rhode Island, including on the Pell Bridge in Newport, the announcement states.

The Rhode Island Sports Commission is a division of the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau, whose mission is to enrich the Rhode Island economy and community through the attraction, promotion and development of sporting events and associated meetings.
