Wickford to Providence

With the start of the new FREE train service from Providence to Wickford Junction, there are a million reasons why we are excited. But besides the easiest way to access the train station (the train makes a stop at T.F. Green Airport before its final destination in each direction), we decided to narrow it down to five — each way!

Food: Providence has proved itself as a culinary capital time and time again. You don’t have to spend a million bucks to eat well, just visit Federal Hill. One of the four largest Little Italys in the country, there is a price point for every wallet.
WaterFire: You can’t talk about Providence without talking about WaterFire. With plenty of Friday night lightings (the train is only free Monday–Friday) you really can’t beat taking the train up.
Eclectic Neighborhoods: Providence is home to a bunch of great neighborhoods and most of them have an amazing retail aspect. Check out Wayland Square, Westminster Street (including the Arcade Providence), Hope Street and Thayer Street.
Abundant History: Providence is the birthplace of Rhode Island, and home of the largest collection of Colonial homes and the First Baptist Church in America. You’ll be amazed at what you learn. Check out our self-guided historic walking tour maps.
The Arts: Artists make up a huge population of Providence residents, and we couldn’t be happier. Enjoy Gallery Night (the third Thursday of every month April–November ... free!) or spend the day at the RISD Museum, where you’ll see works from recognizable artists and maybe your new favorite piece.

Wickford Village: With quaint shops and delicious restaurants, you might forget you’re still in Rhode Island. Historic Wickford Village has it all. You can even bring your dog!
Wickford Festivals: From the art festival to the more holiday-themed "Festival of Lights," you’ll be happy you made the trip down to check out how other parts of Rhode Island do things.
It’s a Little Lazier: While Providence isn’t the bustling hub that New York and Boston are, it’s still pretty urban and you see your neighbors everywhere. So get out of town (literally), and take a mini vacation without all the hassle.
A Different Farmers Market: With the "farm to table" movement really taking off, why not get closer to those farms your veggies come from? Wickford Village Farmers Market is open every Thursday through September, 1-5 p.m. in the Town Parking Lot on Brown Street.
Kayaking (and More): That’s right, the Kayak Center of Rhode Island has a new home in Wickford, and we couldn’t be more excited. They offer seal tours, guided sunset tours, and paddle board and kayak classes — so mosey on down and check out the spectacular views.
