Beginning Tuesday, September 27, gamers are invited to play one of the world’s most popular games, Minecraft, at select Showcase Cinemas theatres, including Showcase Cinemas Warwick. As a result of Showcase’s partnership with Super League Gaming, the world’s first and largest in-theater video game league, patrons have the option to sign up for a four-week tournament or individual gaming sessions throughout the fall months.
The events invite gamers to sit side-by-side and play Minecraft in the traditional first-person view on their laptops while also watching a customized aerial “world-view” featuring all players in the room on the theatre screen. Each session features both team gameplay and individual battles, allowing players to climb a leaderboard that’s shown on the big screen. After each week’s play, Super Leaguers can check the SLG Leaderboard to see where their points rank in the world standings. At the end of the season, Super League names Individual Theatre Champions, Team Champions and National Champions. Parents and caregivers are invited to stay and cheer on their gamers for free.
Players must bring their own fully-charged laptop with Minecraft Version 1.10 installed. Additionally, they must have a unique Mojang account and Minecraft username.
