The male, named Harley, and female, Persephone, are the only ones of their kind in New England. Persephone was born two years ago and previously lived at the Peoria Zoo in Illinois. The Providence Preservation Society presents “A Benefit Street Holiday.” The Providence Preservation Society (PPS) presents A Benefit Street Holiday, a family–friendly day–long Holiday Festival launching the festive season of shopping, celebrations and homecomings in Providence on Saturday, December 3, 2011. The event begins with Len Cabral, an internationally acclaimed storyteller, who will enchant children with his folktales at the beginning of the morning children’s program. Following the storytelling, children will be able to decorate a historic house gingerbread cookie. THE BRITISH INVADE PROVIDENCE DURING THE “MADE IN THE UK” EXHIBIT AT THE RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL OF DESIGN Visitors to Providence will enjoy “London Calling” as the British invade the Museum of Art at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) during the “Made in the UK: Contemporary Art from the Richard Brown Baker Collection” exhibit, scheduled for September 23, 2011 through January 8, 2012. This exhibit will feature more than 100 paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures demonstrating the British contribution to a variety of movements including Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art and Photorealism.
