The recently renovated Dunkin' Donuts Center glistens in downtown Providence and is within walking distance of premier restaurants, attractions and accommodations. Additional venues featuring top-notch skating and basketball, and other athletic facilities are located minutes from downtown.
Nearby Warwick, RI offers ample athletic fields and lush golf courses, while the state's many colleges and universities, including Brown University, Providence College, Bryant University, and the University of Rhode Island, provide a variety of indoor and outdoor venue options. Just offshore, the waters of Narragansett Bay are the perfect setting for sailing and boating pursuits.
Newport, RI is often thought of as the "sailing capital of the world," but it also offers a variety of on-land sporting sites for both spectators and participants, including the International Tennis Hall of Fame, polo grounds in Portsmouth and Cardines Field in Newport, one of the oldest ballparks in the country.
Youth tournaments in hockey, soccer, and baseball, to name a few, are often held in the state. RI is also an ideal spot for lacrosse tournaments, one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States.
The state is fast becoming a draw for runners, with several marathons, including the Cox Rhode Races, the Amica Marathon and the 2011 Rock 'n' Roll half marathon.
