Welcome to Providence, Rhode Island
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Providence for the 77th Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. We are pleased to have you as our guest and will do all we can to make your stay enjoyable and memorable.
With a thriving arts district, a commitment to historical preservation, and a sophisticated nightlife, Providence offers a variety of entertainment options. The Federal Hill neighborhood is brimming with restaurants, galleries and specialty stores, all with a decidedly Italian flavor. Tony award-winning Trinity Repertory Company draws throngs of theatergoers into the city. One of Providence's most popular cultural events is the multi-sensory art installation WaterFire, which we will experience together on Saturday night.
There's also plenty to attract the eye of even the most discerning shopper. Connected to the Rhode Island Convention Center and The Westin Providence, Providence Place offers visitors a mall with more than 100 shopping, dining and entertainment options. Steps away from our host hotels, visitors will find an eclectic array of shops along Westminster Street, where the Providence Art Festival will get under way on Saturday. Funky urban chic can be found at one of the many boutiques on Thayer and Wickenden streets, both on the city's tony East Side. And Wayland Square offers a vibrant local Main Street shopping experience with boutiques, restaurants and a flavor all its own.
Home to the famous Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a staunch supporter of the arts, Providence has become a haven for artists and entertainers. With the largest number of working artists in the country, Providence boasts an eclectic mix of galleries, theaters and museums. The city's many theaters, dance companies and musical performers also add vitality and color to our dynamic arts scene.
With so much to do and see, we are sure that your visit with us will be a memorable one. Enjoy your stay in Providence!
