This past Thursday, I joined thousands of other young, eager college students in the exciting world of interning. The stereotype for internships is hardly a thrilling one, usually associated with running small errands or grabbing coffee, so you can imagine my surprise when my first day as an intern with the Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau (PWCVB) marketing department was far from typical.

One of my first assignments was to join PWCVB employees on a commercial shoot at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. We arrived around 2 PM, when zoo staff members feed the giraffes. (The public is welcome to witness the fun themselves!) Zoo staffers graciously allowed the giraffes to be the center of the commercial, even letting PWCVB employees (and interns) feed the remarkable animals ourselves. With the giraffe's gentle cooperation, the commercial was successfully completed and can now be seen in the Boston area on Comcast networks.

Nothing brings back joyful childhood memories quite like a trip to the zoo. Feeding leaves to the friendly giraffes and seeing the smiling faces of the onlookers only foreshadowed the incredible experience I hope to have this summer working for the PWCVB. I'm looking forward to learning more about my chosen career path through both education and experience this summer.
