Mayor Jorge O. Elorza, the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism and Skyline at Waterplace are excited to present the One Providence New Year’s Eve by Skyline celebration taking place on Sunday, December 31 at 7 p.m. at Waterplace Park. The event offers outdoor activities open to the public for free, as well as a ticketed indoor celebration at 7 p.m. (with purchase of a VIP ticket) or 9 p.m. (with the purchase of a Rooftop ticket) inside Skyline at Waterplace.
For the first time, Providence will host a classic New Year’s Eve “ball drop,” but with a special twist: the “ball” will be projected against the city’s iconic “Superman” building located at 111 Westminister, which may be viewed from the venue and Waterplace Park.
The free outdoor spectacular, the first of its kind in the city, will also feature entertainment in Waterplace Park beginning at 7 p.m. including, a laser-light show and a spectacular fireworks display in the Waterplace basin. In addition, attendees will be able to enjoy culinary delights as Finance Way will be closed to traffic to accommodate a host of Providence’s legendary food trucks. Popular holiday beverages and souvenirs will be sold in the area.
Skyline will also host an indoor VIP dinner, a ticketed event that includes dinner, valet, dessert and additional entertainment. Lite fare, valet, dessert, and music will be available for the regular priced tickets taking place on the first level. Hotel packages are also available.
“We’ve hosted many groundbreaking events at Skyline, but we’re thinking of the ‘Superman’ Building ball drop as a ‘sky-breaking,’” said Michael Mota, managing partner of Skyline at Waterplace. “Thanks to our venue’s unique combination of indoor and outdoor spaces, the public will be able to take full advantage of the ball drop, laser-light show and fireworks extravaganza from the basin for free. Every seat will be a front row seat.”
"Providence is the perfect place to celebrate the New Year," said Mayor Elorza. "Residents from across Rhode Island are welcome to join us for another memorable night in the Creative Capital, complete with outdoor musical performances in our very own Waterplace Park and fireworks over the City to finish the night."
