August already? Luckily we live in Rhode Island, so our summers run a bit longer. There are still clams to bake and boats in the water. So let's soak up the sun and bask in the glory of summer in Lil' Rhody. Here's an update on what's happening here at the PWCVB and with you, our partners.

With everyone busy using up their vacation time during this last bit of summer, we decided to skip an August Partner Meeting. Be on the lookout for an invitation to the September meeting coming soon.

The Fall/Winter issue of GoProvidence is currently in production. The guide runs from Oct. 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019. Be sure to send your events for the guide's calendar to PWCVB Digital Media Manager Nick Millard

And, as always, be sure to add your events to our online calendar. If you have any questions or difficulties please reach out to Nick Millard.

Aaron Messina was recently named the Area Director of Sales for the Renaissance Providence and Hilton Providence Hotels. Aaron has been with the TPG family for some time, and we congratulate him on this awesome opportunity — it’s well deserved!

Fleming's is hosting summer deals that can’t be beat! Check out their Monday three-course offerings (including buttery filet mignon and sweet cold-water lobster) or Tomahawk Tuesdays (choose two salads followed by a 35 oz. prime tomahawk to share, two sides and two dessert selections).

The Providence River Boat Company and Confident Captain have joined forces to bring the popular "At The Helm" boating instruction and experience programs to Providence. Patrons can enjoy the thrill of boating with a licensed captain and seasoned boating instructor in a clinic format for just $99. To learn more about the programs and to schedule a clinic, visit JustGoBoating.com or call Kristin Stone at 401-580-BOAT.

The Rhode Island Hospitality Association recently launched the #AskFirstRI campaign, which is aimed at reducing the use of plastic straws in Rhode Island businesses. By signing onto the #AskFirstRI pledge, hospitality businesses commit to only give straws to customers upon request, instead of automatically putting a straw in a customer’s drink. Americans throw away half a billion straws every day. Eight million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year. Keeping our oceans clean is an integral part of maintaining business in The Ocean State. Take the #AskFirstRI pledge.
