If you like beer that’s locally crafted with your taste buds in mind, check out Providence Craft Beer Week, where local breweries put their best brews forward in The Creative Capital.
Providence Craft Beer Week is a full week recognizing the culinary art of local brewing with samples, discounted food and drink, prizes and less-than-totally-serious barroom sports like flip cup, foosball, cornhole and more.
From Saturday, Oct. 19 through Friday, Oct. 25, there will be an event each evening from 6–8:30 p.m. at a different PVD watering hole and featuring a tap takeover by a different brewery. On several nights, there are two or more locations. You can find a complete schedule at providencecraftbeerweek.com.
You can get a passport at any participating event or online for $25. That gets you exclusive discounts each night, plus merchandise from the brewers, samples and you can compete in the game of the night to win tickets to Beervana, Rhode Island’s most bountiful brewfest, which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 26. There will also be a puzzle you can piece together over the course of the week to win more prizes.
The week also includes some more off-the-wall events — you can get points for participating in the Wild Colonial’s “bad idea that keeps getting worse,” the Grog and Dog Jog, a relay race where each person first runs a mile and a quarter, then chugs a beer and downs a hot dog as fast as they can, before handing the relay off to the next person. Costumes are strongly encouraged. That takes place on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. You don’t have to be on a team — they need volunteers too, and that can be a lot of fun.
Also, a number of participating breweries are launching exciting new brews — Trinity Brewhouse is unveiling their new Imperial Pumpkin Ale Wednesday night, Foolproof Brewing is releasing their much-anticipated Ocean State IPA and Grey Sail Brewing is launching Little Sister, a relative that fans of their Captain's Daughter have been looking forward to.
Participating Brewers include Grey Sail, Foolproof, Whalers Brewing, Shaidzon Beer Co., Trinity Brewhouse, The Malted Barley, Proclamation Ale Company, Beer on Earth, Allagash, Lost Nation and Founders.
Participating havens of beer goodness include What Cheer Tavern, Wild Colonial, Pizza J, Julian's, Rogue Island, Wickenden St. Pub, Trinity, Barnaby’s Public House, The Malted Barley and Flatbread Company.
