It’s hard to believe that 40 years ago, it would essentially be considered illegal for me to freely walk down the streets of downtown Providence in full drag, strutting my sequins, high heels and freshly teased wig. The world we live in has changed and progressed so much, and while we have so far to go, we have come such a long way. This year, Rhode Island Pride celebrates its 40th Anniversary. It’s crazy to think there was a time when Pride didn’t exist!

There are so many ways for you to show your Pride during the month of June – from the Illuminated Nighttime Parade to Drag Bingo, block parties at your favorite bars and clubs to concerts, and so much more. To find out how you can take part in all the festivities, be sure to pick up a 2016 Pride Guide presented by Options Magazine. It is overflowing with information on how you can make this 40th Pride celebration memorable for you and your friends. You can visit the Rhode Island Pride website for all of the up-to-date information. Of course, you’ll be able to spot yours truly traipsing around the city all month long – be sure to say hello!

The PWCVB would like to extend our deepest sympathy and support to our LGBT community, as well as to the people of Orlando.
