On April 15, the city of Providence will welcome some of the finest chefs from all the land ... New EngLAND, anyway. The Biltmore Hotel will host the 2014 StarChefs.com Coastal New England Rising Stars Awards. Star Chefs is one of the most respected sources for restaurant industry professionals and their choice of Providence for the awards gala is a nod to our growing culinary notoriety.

The Rising Star Awards are given to food and beverage professionals who are under 40 and are at the forefront of their professions. Rhode Island has become a culinary Mecca - oh yes we have - and if you're looking for a perfect example, you need to look no further than the incredible number of Rhode Islanders on the list of winners. Thirteen food and beverage professionals were recognized for their excellence. Of special note were nods to Derek Wagner, of Nicks on Broadway, for sustainability, James Mark, of North, for community, and one of very few females to make the list, Melissa Denmark, of Gracie's, for her delicious pastry work. Also recognized were Peter Kobulnicky, Ian Cappelano and Mike Lingwall of Foremost Baking Company. If you eat in many of our city's best restaurants, you've likely eaten their near-perfect bread.

The evening includes a VIP reception, awards ceremony and tasting gala. The VIP reception features Champagne and Petrossian caviar and the tasting includes 20 food AND 20beverage tastings from a group of the most talented chefs under 40 in coastal New England.
