Don’t know what to do with all those iTunes gift cards? GoProvidence got advice from Lindsey Lerner, the founder of Level Exchange an innovative music content creation incubator located at The Guild in Pawtucket. Lerner, who spent her summer on the Warped Tour, also works with national acts, including tour managing hip hop artist Watsky. Here are her picks for some great acts with local roots.
Skout – Indie folk with an edge, this duo with Barrington ties pairs deeply personal lyrics with urgent and emotionally charged instrumentals.
Sun of Sound – Skilled musicianship meets post hip hop in this Providence-based band.
Julie Rhodes – The aptly-named Rhodes, who splits her time between Providence and Boston, has an incredibly soulful voice that, as Lerner says “just crushes it.”
Chachi Carvalho – Well-known in the local rap community, Carvalho paints a multilingual lyrical portrait.
Young Pandas – This Providence band’s rhythmic Indie Soul sound begs to be sung along to.
Blind Revision – For those who like their rock to have a harder edge, this Providence-based band delivers.
