PVD POV: Rhode Island 250 With Secretary Gregg Amore
Rhode Island may be the smallest state, but its place in American history is anything but small.
In this episode of PVD POV, Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg Amore joins us to talk about Rhode Island 250 and the many ways the Ocean State is commemorating the nation's 250th anniversary. The conversation covers Rhode Island's copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Gaspee Affair, Stephen Hopkins, Liberty Tree plantings, the July 4 WaterFire celebration and the proposed Rhode Island History Center.
Secretary Amore also makes the case for why visitors should explore Providence and Rhode Island through the lens of American history, from the State House and the Royal Charter to historic homes, archives, museums and Revolutionary War stories hiding in plain sight.
The July 4 RI250 WaterFire celebration is free and open to the public with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra performing on the State House steps before the lighting.
