Since 2005, the Gloria Gemma Foundation has been hosting the Flames of Hope event in downtown Providence and it has grown into a weekend-long celebration featuring three incredible events. The weekend begins at the Omni Providence Hotel with the Passport to Survivorship Expo, a free healthy living expo that brings together the latest in medical cancer care and the best in holistic wellbeing. This year's event will feature vendors, interactive health exhibits, nutrition demonstrations and the keynote speaker, best-selling author and founder of NutritionFacts.org,Dr. Michael Greger. In the afternoon the festivities move outside to Station Park for the Celebration of Life Festival and the coveted Illuminations of Life Ceremony and torch procession that leads to the largest lighting of WaterFire. Tens of thousands of spectators converge on Station Park to enjoy exhibits, games, food and a free concert, featuring Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra. On Sunday, the Flames of Hope weekend comes to a close with the Gloria Gemma Run/Walk Series featuring three different races--the Kids Fun Run, the Pink Pump Palooza and the Gloria Gemma 5K. The Run-Walk Series is the Foundation's largest fundraiser and proceeds from this event help fund the 20+ free programs and support services we provide to people touched by cancer.
