Neither Billie Jean King nor Helen Wills were the first women's champions to beat a well-known men's player in singles tennis. In the late eighteenth century, ladies challenged and beat top-rated men at real tennis with surprising frequency. What does this history mean for real and lawn tennis today, and for our understanding of women's centrality in tennis history more broadly? Come find out.

This event will be held at the National Tennis Club, the oldest Court Tennis court in the country, which is on the grounds of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Individual sessions are $24 per person which includes the lecture, light refreshments and wine.
