The premiere showcase in the United States of international women’s animated short films, and the first in North America to specifically focus on woman in animation. Womanimation! 2019 returns to Rhode Island for a special one-day only engagement Saturday, June 29th at AS220 in Providence, RI.
With a dozen films culled from hundreds of submissions from over forty countries, the festival exhibits techniques from traditional 2-d hand drawing to stop motion to computer animation and mixed media.
Several of the films make their US debut, and all are New England premieres. The festival offers a rare chance for local audiences to sample the world of women’s animation.
Though never longer than 15 minutes, and sometimes under five, the films emphasize well-developed stories as well as visual experimentation. Narrative themes might touch on history, family, romance, or self-discovery, along with regular detours into realms of fantasy.
The festival program will screen at 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm, and 8:00 pm, with festival organizers on hand to introduce the program. Additionally, DJ Madame B will create international soundscapes before and after screenings, and a slideshow introducing the “Womanimators” is presented immediately before each screening.
Tickets are on sale online and at the door the day of the event at AS220(cash only). Tickets online are at: http://tinyurl.com/w19tix
