5 Places to Celebrate National Sandwich Day in Providence
Confession: I almost never manage to pack lunch. Most mornings, I'm doing good if I get out the door with my laptop and a cup of coffee. Luckily, there's no shortage of fabulous lunch spots within walking distance of our downtown office where I can grab a sandwich on the run. Here are a few of my favorites:
Murphy's
Murphy's has been a Providence staple for more than 90 years, and with three different Reubens on the menu, plus local favorites like the Lobster Roll and Roger Williams, you're sure to find whatever you're in the mood for. Don't forget to ask for pickles!
CHOP
Stop into CHOP for a latte and a tuna melt or grab one of their house-made sodas to go. While you're there, be sure to pick up a cookie or two for later. In fact, you'll probably want to get enough for the whole office.
Ocean State Sandwich Company
Ocean State Sandwich Company uses fresh, local ingredients in all of their soups, salads and sandwiches, including rolls from Buono's Bakery. Try the Apple Valley Turkey or the Roast Beef Dijonnaise.
Malted Barley
What's better than a sandwich? A sandwich on a handcrafted pretzel. The Malted Barley serves made-to-order deliciousness like the BLT (go for the garlic aioli) or the meatball on a garlic and parsley pretzel.
Ellie's
In the mood for something a little fancier? Head to Ellie's for the Croque Monsieur and a side of Ellie's Poutine. Be sure to save room for one of their scrumptious desserts. And hey, you can always burn off the extra calories with a lunchtime stroll along the RiverWalk. Or just take the scenic route back to your office or hotel room.
With so many great options, you could celebrate National Sandwich Day (Nov. 3) every day of the week.
