About Snookers Sports, Billiards, Bar & Grill

Snookers, one of Rhode Island's best-known sports bars, was founded in 1989 by Stephen and Regina Goulding in Providence's Jewelry District. The billiards hall, sports bar and grill has since moved to Ashburton Street, conveniently located near Downtown Providence.

The original Snookers on Clifford Street featured a pool hall with 20 tables, a game room and a snack bar serving concession-style snacks and soft drinks. After five successful years and the addition of a liquor license, the game room became "The Green Room," a popular hot spot that hosted up-and-coming bands and DJs alongside well-known acts. For years it was the go-to destination for entertainment in the city.

In 2009, Snookers moved about a mile and a half to its current home at 53 Ashburton Street, dramatically transforming the former Damiano Brothers Welding Company building. The interior is an eclectic mix of art, sports memorabilia, signage, movie keepsakes and industrial artifacts from the building's previous life. With each milestone in Snookers' history, the Goulding family adds a memento for loyal patrons to enjoy. A 360° virtual tour on the Snookers website offers a look inside.

Today, Snookers is a standout in Providence's sports bar, billiards and dining scene. It offers 15 professional-quality pool tables and is the official home of the New England Pool and Billiards Hall of Fame, making it a headquarters for the region's billiards enthusiasts. Guests will also find three full bars, a spacious dining room, a seasonal beer garden, an outdoor patio and bar, and 60 HD TVs, creating a lively atmosphere for all ages.

Snookers is also a great choice for events and parties. The kitchen serves a wide variety of generously portioned dishes at reasonable prices, and private rooms accommodate groups of 10 to 275 guests, with a party menu to suit any occasion. An experienced party planner can help customize every detail.

Whether meeting friends, hosting a corporate event or catching the big game over craft beers and great food, Snookers delivers a good time.
