About Providence Preservation Society

Founded in 1956 in response to the proposed demolition of several 18th- and early 19th-century houses on College Hill, the Providence Preservation Society (PPS) has grown from a small neighborhood group into a multifaceted, citywide preservation organization.

Supported by a large membership, a professional staff, and countless volunteers, PPS offers a broad range of services in support of its mission: to improve Providence by advocating for historic preservation and enhancing the city's unique character through thoughtful design and planning. Its programs and offerings include the annual Festival of Historic Houses, citywide advocacy, resources for homeowners, and a variety of other events.
