Providence Area Events This Weekend
Welcome to our GoProvidence Weekend Roundup with all the hottest happenings in PVD this weekend.
Food Truck Fridays at Roger Williams Park Zoo and Carousel Village is Providence's favorite way to kick off the weekend, bringing together more than 15 local food trucks, cold drinks for the 21+ crowd and plenty of family fun. Consider it your weekly cheat day, but make it a party.
Providence is home to some great cultural events, and this weekend the Rhode Island Black Film Festival takes center stage. Now in its 9th year, the festival celebrates Black artists and filmmakers with a diverse lineup of content across multiple venues around Providence.
Theater fans, "The Outsiders" musical is playing at the Providence Performing Arts Center through Sunday. Ponyboy, Johnny and the Greasers are staying gold on the PPAC stage, telling the story of teenagers trying to find their place in 1967 Oklahoma. If you're looking for a reason to go, just do it for Johnny, man.
Also on the theater front, "Primary Trust" is running at Trinity Rep. This 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner is an intimate, offbeat comedy about one man's leap of faith and the friends he makes along the way. Heartwarming and critically acclaimed? Not a bad combo.
The Naked Magicians hit The VETS on Saturday night. These guys perform real magic, and they do it with considerably fewer clothes on as the show goes on. They've performed for millions of fans across 300+ cities, so they clearly know how to put on a show.
For something a little more family-friendly, the zoo's A Bug's World exhibit is open all weekend long. It's an immersive, bug's-eye view look at the tiny creatures doing big things in our backyards. Think of it as a "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" situation, minus the shrinking.
