On-street parking is also available in several downtown areas. Most on-street parking is metered parking, which allows you to park for a maximum of two hours until 6 p.m. and, in some areas, up to three hours between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Quick Tip: once your time limit expires, you are not able to re-feed the meter.
You can find meters that allow up to four hours of parking on Chestnut Street between Pine and Clifford; Greene Street between Broad and Washington; Pine Street between Chestnut and Dave Gavitt Way (formerly Service Road 8); Eddy Street past the Garrahy Court House, and along Service Road 12; and on some spots on Broad Street between I-95 and Empire.
Metered parking is required between 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Rates are $.25 for 12 minutes (or $1.25 per hour). Short-term parking at 30-minute meters costs $.25 for 10 minutes (or $.75 for a half hour). Be sure to check all parking areas for rules and regulations. Parking is free on Sundays.
Paying for parking in Providence just got a whole lot easier. Download the Passport Parking App to conveniently pay for parking from your mobile device. The app also alerts you before the time on the meter expires, allows you to prefund money for parking in a “parking wallet,” and more. Visit ProvidenceRI.gov/Parking for details.
