One of Providence's most popular attractions comes in the form of 12 spinning circular cars full of fun at the BankNewport City Center. When you hear "bumper cars," you think carnival fun crashing into your best friend (or younger sibling), but now you can think of ice and, well, still crashing into your best friend.

Each ride lasts 15 minutes and costs $12. The rink opens on Wednesday, Dec. 9, and will operate daily at a reduced capacity to allow for proper social distancing, and masks are required.

Providence residents can receive a 15% discount through the City’s municipal identification card system, IDPVD. The bumper cars run at the same time as regular ice skating, so don't worry about not being able to skate at the rink.

The ice bumper car schedule this year is as follows:

Shared ice bumper cars & ice skating
4–8 p.m.

Shared ice bumper cars & ice skating
10 a.m.2 p.m.

Ice bumper cars, as well as all skate rentals, will be sanitized in between uses.

And even though one-third of the rink will be dedicated to bumper cars at some part of the day, it's still twice the size of Rockefeller Center's rink — plenty of room for public ice skating for all! The rink is open for ice skating from 10 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, weather permitting.

And the best thing about these cars is that they have real wheels, so they run year-round.
