Fall is knocking on our door and we can’t be more excited. It’s almost time to put away our flip-flops and take out those sweaters. But for the time being, let’s just enjoy the rush of the students and the last few days of summer we have left. Don’t forget to sign up for our Members Only Facebook Group and submit your events on our calendar of events. Students and visitors alike use our calendar to make their weekend (or vacation) plans, so be sure to include all of your events.

The curtains have opened up on the theater season in Providence and both the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) and Trinity Repertory Company feature a fantastic lineup of shows. This fall, Broadway hit "Wicked" drops onto PPAC's stage, along with revered classic "The King and I," and many other shows. PPAC's 2017 schedule includes the breathtaking "The Lion King" and the magical "Matilda The Musical," to name a few. Trinity showcases the dramatic comedy "Appropriate" this fall, leading into the holiday classic "A Christmas Carol." Their season also includes "The Mountaintop," with Martin Luther King, Jr. at the center of the story, the Shakespearean romantic comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and much more.

Seals love fall, which is why we are excited to help announce that Save the Bay offers one-hour, 90-minute, and two-hour seal tours and nature cruises out of Westerly, Newport and Fall River, Mass. Binoculars are provided and expert guides offer an educational view of winter marine visitors and the habitat they love. Guides will help you spot seals and discuss the rich history and environmental issues of the region. Tours are $17 for Save The Bay members, and $22 for non-members. Reservations are recommended: www.savebay.org/seals or 401-203-7325. 

Don’t forget Save The Bay's Exploration Center and Aquarium, on Easton's Beach in Newport, is open year-round. For only $8, you can view more than 100+ critters and a enjoy close-up look at more than 40 different marine species right from Narragansett Bay.

On September 23, from 6-9 p.m., the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce (Westerly, RI) will host Brews and Blues 2016. Featuring live music, food from local restaurants and markets paired with more than 30 beers and wines from around the world. The event will be held at the Windjammer (321 Atlantic Avenue, Westerly, RI). Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. 

Let’s celebrate! Mary Desrosiers at Hotel Viking has been promoted to director of group sales. Mary has proven her capacity to forge ahead in the highly competitive world of hotel sales through her experience, customer service skills, attention to detail and involvement in MPI New England. 

The Big Toast just won Rhode Island Monthly’s Best Non-Profit Fundraiser and is a food and drink tasting event benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS). The event is Thursday, October 6 at Rhodes On The Pawtuxet from 5:30-9:30 p.m. BBBSOS provides mentors to more than 500 children across the state. The Big Toast is FREE for vendors to attend and is a great opportunity for restaurants to promote to a large audience (600+ people are expected).
