Independent Bookstore Day, on April 25, honors independent bookstores around the country and online. This year marks the 13th annual celebration by the American Booksellers Association and features participants from over 2,000 bookstores in all 50 states. With everything from discounts to book signings, Rhode Island bookstores are well represented.

Independent Bookstore Day 2026

This year, swing by Books on the Square in Providence, Charter Books in Newport or Wakefield Books in Wakefield to grab a Rhode Island Independent Bookstores Passport Adventure, available starting April 18. From there, visit each of the participating shops to collect a stamp in your passport. Return it with all 20 stamps by April 26 and you'll earn a 20% off coupon for every store in the program. One lucky participant will even take home the grand prize: a $25 gift certificate to all 20 locations. Sounds like a book lover's dream to me!

Many of the participating bookstores will also have giveaways, raffles, discounts, author signings and more on April 25. With so many great events going on all around the state it's the perfect excuse to visit your favorite local bookstore or explore somewhere new.
