Journey deep into a wonderland of glittering sea creatures, discover an illuminated world of wildlife, or adventure through a dazzling display of larger-than-life mythical animals!

These are just a few of the stunning themed displays visitors will experience at the Asian Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Glowing Wednesday–Sunday evenings, now through July 4, this extraordinary walk-through event encompasses the entire zoo and is sure to delight all ages.

Lantern celebrations are closely tied with the traditional Chinese New Year and represent a time of peace, good luck and enjoying time with family and friends. As an important part of the Rhode Island community for 150 years, the zoo is committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and continually strives to build engaging and inspiring experiences for all its visitors.

“Our zoo is meant to be a place that’s welcoming to all. We support and celebrate diversity and we are excited to celebrate 2,000 years of tradition and Asian culture during this truly remarkable event,” says Stacey Johnson, Roger Williams Park Zoo executive director.

Aside from the lanterns, attendees will delight in savory Asian-inspired cuisine and drinks, as well as a cultural stage show musical and dance performances on Thursday–Sunday evenings by local community organizations and groups. The zoo’s Soaring Eagle Zip Ride will also be open, allowing guests the chance to witness this spectacle of dazzling lights from 115 feet high.

This event is not only a celebration of Asian culture but it is inspired by our wild world and further fosters the zoo’s message of conservation. From tigers, lions, rhinos and kangaroos to tropical birds, dolphins and a wide variety of other animals and plants — children and adults of all ages are sure to delight in the magic of this fully immersive experience.

The event also supports the zoo’s ongoing world-class animal care, local and global conservation initiatives, and educational programming. The zoo is home to more than 160 fascinating species and 800 animals. With each ticket purchased, visitors are sharing in the care of their favorite animal friends.
