The Book of Mormon has been called many things. Filthy, offensive (Vogue) but also "the sweetest thing you'll see on Broadway this year, and quite possibly the funniest musical ever." (That same Vogue review.) A fish-out-of-water tale taken to extremes, follow the journey of two young Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda who try to share their religion with a region with more pressing issues - like war and famine - at hand.
We recently sat down with one of the leads, Christopher John O'Neill, to learn more about the musical and hear what it's like to play hapless Mormonite Elder Cunningham. The Book of Mormon has won nine Tony® Awards including "Best Musical" and "Best Original Score." The show plays at the Providence Performing Arts Center through May 11. Select seats are available and low-priced lottery tickets are available.
