Clearly, moms should be lauded, celebrated and pampered throughout the year. But — speaking for myself — I'm just happy to get one day. If you're looking for a stellar gift or a way to show the mom in your life how much you adore her (and really secure your spot as her favorite) here are some suggestions.

Gifts Galore

Need a cool present? Head over to Thayer Street and find fashion-forward gifts at Berk's Shoes & Clothing and Urban Outfitters, eclectic selections at Pleasant Surprise and worldly finds at Spectrum-India. Or give mom the best gift of all — your time. Take her out for the day to check out the shops, and then grab a bite together and catch a cool movie at the Avon Cinema. Don't forget to save some room for a treat from Insomnia Cookies!

Relax on the River

Sitting back and sipping a mimosa on Providence River Boat Company's Mother's Day Mimosa Tour? SIGN ME UP. This fun gift idea includes a 50-minute tour gliding along Providence's picturesque waterways and a complimentary mimosa for anyone over 21. Spots are filling fast, so book now (hint, hint to my family).

A Zoo Adventure

Pack up the family and head to Roger Williams Park Zoo for a day of making memories as you encounter hundreds of animals, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, a red panda, snow leopards and more. While there, be sure to check out the new “Dragons & Mythical Creatures” immersive, walk-through experience, running through Aug. 11 (a separate ticket is required) or get an up-close look at some feathered friends with the zoo's daily interactive bird show.

Treat Mom to a Nice Meal

Give mom a break and take care of dinner (or brunch or lunch). Head to beautiful Bristol for a seafood feast at The Lobster Pot, an iconic restaurant located right on Narragansett Bay. Or try Tumblesalts Cafe in North Providence, where you can dine in a quaint Victorian house setting. Spend the day in Garden City Center in nearby Cranston, and after a little shopping, have lunch (and maybe an espresso and tiramisu) at Avvio Ristorante. Reservations are definitely recommended wherever you choose, but at least you get out of washing the dishes.
