Seafood lovers won't want to miss the 10th Annual Ocean State Oyster Festival (OSOF) on Saturday, Oct. 5 (1–8 p.m.) at its new location in the 195 District Park. The festival was created as a way to celebrate the oyster and highlight Rhode Island's aquaculture industry. What better way to do that than with a day devoted to showcasing local oyster farms?
The event features 15 Rhode Island oyster farms, including Blue Acres Oyster Farm, Bluff Hill Cove Oysters and Rocky Rhode Oyster Company, just to name a few. In addition to sampling oysters, guests can enjoy live music, a variety of food trucks, craft beer and wine.
In the spirit of sustainability, the OSOF partners with the Nature Conservancy of RI to recycle the discarded oyster shells from the festival for reef building.
Tickets can be purchased for $15 in advance. Children under 14 are free. Oyster and drink tickets will be sold separately.
On-street parking is available around 195 District Park and garage parking is next to the park on Eddy St. There will also be a drop-off spot adjacent to the festival, if you prefer ridesharing. The event is weather permitting. Dogs are welcome, as long as they are leashed at all times.
