If there was ever a summer to be in Providence, this is it. The world's biggest soccer tournament landed in New England, America is celebrating its 250th birthday, Rhode Island Pride hit 50 years, and the city has the kind of energy that makes you want to be out and about as much as possible. Here's how to make the most of it.

If You're Heading Outside
The parks alone are a reason to be in PVD in the summer. India Point Park is perfect for a long, lazy afternoon by the water. Prospect Terrace on the East Side has a skyline view that never gets old. And Roger Williams Park gives you space to actually spread out, with enough paths and gardens to make a whole day of it. And if you happen to catch a rainy day, just move the picnic inside to the Roger Williams Park Botanical Gardens, and relax surrounded by exotic greenery.
For a proper picnic, start with a basket and fun napkins from Homestyle, a cozy throw from Frog & Toad and a bottle (or three) of wine from Federal Hill Wine & Spirits. Then swing by Dave's Fresh Marketplace for sandwiches, fresh-cut fruit and your favorite cheese. Don't leave without checking the bakery case for dessert. When in doubt, always take the cannoli.
If you're in the mood for a day trip, Rhode Island has a lot going on. Newport is less than an hour away from Providence by car or ferry. Block Island is a ferry ride from Point Judith. Mystic is just over the Connecticut line. Any of them make for a great day out.
If You're Staying In
Providence is a great city to wander, and most downtown hotels have dozens of restaurants within walking distance. But you don't need to go out for every meal. If you're watching the match or are settled in for a movie night, Dave's delivers via DoorDash, with a weekly rotating menu of prepared foods that includes everything from grilled salmon to meatloaf.

If You're Playing Host
The thing about hosting a party is that nobody wants to miss the fun by spending the night in the kitchen. Dave's full-service catering provides deli platters, hot entrees, desserts and more. Pick up some serving dishes from Modern Love or Craftland for plating, and tie on an adorable apron from Rhody Craft for the full effect. Smudge a little flour on your cheek for effect, and your guests will never know you didn't spend hours cooking.
Summer moves fast around here. The soccer matches are on, the weather is glorious and Providence is the place to be. However you're spending the season, Dave's makes sure the food is the easy part.
