Living and working in a city that is home to some of the best restaurants in the country seems like a dream to most people. But to others it just makes dining out that much more difficult. Yes, we're talking about those who suffer from Celiac disease, gluten intolerance or those who simply choose to take gluten out of their diet. So instead of either avoiding trying new restaurants or sticking to a salad, come along on a gluten-free journey through Providence.
Breakfast
Ellie's: Try the Signature Breakfast Sandwich with egg, cheddar and tomato jam on a wheat-free English muffin. Their new location on Westminster Street, right next to Grant's Block, is a perfect spot for outdoor dining and people-watching.
The Patio on Broadway: Open for brunch most days of the week, The Patio on Broadway offers a variety of gluten-free dishes, including the Bruschetta and the Short Stack.
Lunch
Ocean State Sandwich Company: Every sandwich is an explosive ride for your taste buds and any sandwich can be made on gluten-free bread. Or try the Blade Steak Chili — it's housemade and gluten free!
Malted Barley: Coming in at number 6 on USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice 2024 Best Restaurant for Gluten-Free Dining list, almost all of Malted Barley's pretzels and sandwiches can be ordered gluten-free. There's even a gluten-free beer on the menu, along with a variety of hard ciders and seltzers.
Dinner
The District: Craving a slice? All of The District's pizzas can be made on a gluten-free crust. We recommend the Fig & Prosciutto.
Pane e Vino: You may not expect a restaurant with "bread" in its name to be a gluten-free hot spot, but Pane e Vino took third place in USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice 2024 Best Restaurant for Gluten-Free Dining. With a full gluten-free menu, including items like Burrata Con Prosciutto, Cavolfiori (roasted cauliflower with golden raisins, pine nuts and caramelized onions), or Capesante (pan-seared scallops, seasonal risotto and a blood orange reduction), it's no wonder they drew national attention!
Dessert
Sin: Stop into Sin for an after-dinner cocktail and pick up a gluten-free cupcake. With a different flavor every month, you'll want to keep going back for more!
Il Massimo: Enjoy lots of gluten-free dinner options at Il Massimo, but be sure to save room for dessert. Try the Cannolo, Torta di Formaggio (better known as cheesecake) or the Torta al Cioccolato (a warm molten chocolate cake with vanilla gelato). All three are gluten free and delicious!
